Chief Marketing Officer Shannon Kantor has spent nearly three decades enhancing the customer experience, and we sat down with her to talk about her experience, what motivates her, and the things she loves.
Tell us about how you came into a career in marketing and how it led you to ChemTec.
Fresh out of college with a degree in Public Relations and Professional Writing, I was looking for a job. ChemTec needed an in-house person to be the point of contact for our advertising accounts, maintain communication with outside sales representatives, and update the website and sales materials. It was the perfect fit!
You’ve been with ChemTec for almost 27 years! What has been the most rewarding aspect of the job?
Twenty-seven? The years have flown by! The most rewarding aspect of my job is the contact I have with our customers throughout my day. In addition to being the point of contact for our marketing efforts, my day-to-day job also includes inside sales, customer service, and order entry. The biggest perk of our family business is bringing my dog Tucker to work every day.
What strengths do you feel you bring to your position for a company like ChemTec?
My greatest strength is my history with ChemTec – we are a family-owned business. Growing up, I worked many summers at ChemTec and eventually became a full-time employee. Designing and writing product mailers, building catalogs, updating product spec pages, and writing newsletters and product releases have given me a strong knowledge base that I have carried with me to inside sales and customer service.
What about the industry motivates you?
No two days are ever alike – technology evolves and applications change. It’s exciting to learn new ways in which ChemTec’s products are used in a multitude of industries. ChemTec’s customers range from small manufacturing plants and local municipalities to the largest manufacturers in the world. Knowing our product is a component in so many applications motivates me. I am very proud of our company.
Tell us a little bit about your personal life! What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?
Greg and I have been married for 22 years. Our daughter, Molly, attends the University of South Carolina. My favorite hobbies include running with friends and traveling, so my free time is spent planning our next running vacation, family vacation, or attending a USC Regatta. When we are not traveling, we are usually enjoying a Saturday or Sunday on a boat!
